Description

With a name that translates literally to 'People's Car,' Volkswagen had nailed the formula for affordable and charming transportation with the evergreen Beatle. When the Corvair was introduced, it borrowed heavily from the Beatle. Like the VW, the Corvair used an air-cooled engine mounted at the rear, with a trunk located up front. The Corvair also used a sing-axle rear suspension similar to the Volkswagen's. While VW had many years to perfect its engine and suspension, Chevrolet jumped right in with the Corvair. With no real experience making such cars, Chevy's new compact was bound to have some issues. Despite the follies of the early cars, there was plenty to like about the Corvair. There styling was crisp and clean with a sporting flair that couldn't be seen on other American compacts. The forward slanting nose with its four small headlights and absence of a grille looked distinctive and fresh. The car's lines were taut and athletic, a welcome step away from the American excess of just a few years prior. This particular 1960 Corvair Deluxe comes finished in its original colors of Ermine White with blue interior. This is a very solid California car that has been in the state until 2006, when it was purchased by a gentleman in 2006. This is a very original car that appears to have only one repaint in its life. The paint on the car looks good over all but does have a few minor imperfections from age. Mainly rock chips and there are holes in the rear deck lid from a luggage rack that was taken off. Both front and rear bumpers look original and have a good shine with only minor scratches showing. The rear bumper still retains its original Southern California Car Club sticker on it. Inside, the blue interior looks very good and appears to be mostly original. The seats have been reupholstered and show no rips or tears that we have found. The carpet does appear to be original for the car and does show some staining but overall looks good with no major rips or tears. The steering wheel is solid as well as the dash with no cracking or major imperfections to either. All lights, blinkers and wipers work with no problems but the original AM radio is currently inoperable. The 140 Cu In dual carb flat 6 runs great and starts right up with no problems. Connected to the rare automatic transmission, the car runs down the road great with no issues. The motor is very clean and unmolested. The body panels and inner fender wells are all original with only some minor surface rust showing around the battery. No rot though. The same goes for the trunk which is solid and includes a full size spare, jack and tools. What really sets this car off is the new Radir Tri Ribb wheels wrapped with brand new Coker white wall tires. This tire and wheel combination really gives this first year Corvair that old school custom look. With only 73,000 original miles, the car has tons of life left in it and is ready for a new owner. The car is being sold on a clean Illinois title with VIN number 00727124736.
