Description

With radically different styling than the first generation, the Toronado had metamorphosed from a "GT"-style car into something more traditional in the luxury car field. It was now more similar to the Cadillac Eldorado than the Buick Riviera, with styling taking several cues from the 1967-70 Eldorado. The new look attracted many new buyers, as sales increased dramatically. All overall dimensions of the '71 Toronado were larger than previous models with wheelbase increased from 119 to 122 inches (3,100 mm), only two inches less than the full-sized Delta 88. Also, the sub frame design of first-generation Toronados was replaced by a separate body-on-frame similar to full-sized Delta 88 and Ninety-Eight models. The front torsion bar suspension was retained, but the multi-leaf springs in the rear were replaced by coil springs. Toronado models received only subtle modifications for 1972. A new front bumper, required to meet new government specifications, and new body side moldings were it for visual changes. Fuel economy was improved due to new carburetor calibration, revised valve and ignition timing, and new axle ratio. This particular car is a 66,000 original mile, one owner car that has been in Arkansas its entire life. Originally purchased in Fort Smith Arkansas at DeWitt Oldsmobile on April 29, 1972, we have every piece of paperwork from the dealership as well as the original title. Records were kept for everything done to the car including mufflers, tune ups, tires and regular maintenance. All of these receipts were kept and are included with the purchase of the car. Outside, the car is finished in its original color of Covert Beige and is in fantastic condition. We have just had the car buffed and the paint came out to a brilliant shine. No major imperfections to the paint are to be found on the car. The only minor blemishes we have found on the car are to the painted steel trim around the vinyl top which is starting to peel a small bit. There is also some minor cracking to the original weather stripping. Both bumpers look great and show no damage to either. Inside, the car is nearly spotless. Both seats look new and have no wear showing. The same goes for the carpet, dash and headliner. The only imperfection that we have found inside is to the steering wheel where there is some minor separating with the trim. All power functions work with the front seat as well as both windows, power locks, AM radio, cruise control and A/C. Under the hood, the engine compartment is very clean and in good original condition. With the exception of a new battery, everything looks to be how it was when it left the factory. The big 455 Cu In V8 runs down the road with no problems and starts up with no pumping of the gas or smoking. This is a great running car that goes down the road with no problems. The underside as well as the body are both extremely solid with no rot that we have seen. The trunk includes a full size spare as well as a jack with the original trunk lining. The car comes with every receipt it appears for work that has ever been done to it as well as the original title, owners pack from Oldsmobile, registration slips and original vehicle invoice. The car is being sold on a clean Arkansas title with VIN number of 3Y57W2M736131. The current mileage shows 66,924.
