Description

The Corvette Nomad was a 1954 proto-type that debuted at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel in New York City for General Motors Motorama. It has been called the WALDORF ever since. It was such a huge success that some of the unique features were applied to a Chevrolet Belair two-door station wagon and it was put into production as a Nomad in 1955. All of the 8,530 bodies were made at the Cleveland plant and shipped to the Flint, Baltimore, St. Louis, Los Angeles, Jamestown, Tarrytown, Atlanta, Kansas City, Oakland, Willow Run, and Norwood plants to be assembled. This particular car was assembled at the Flint Michigan assemble plant. The car you are looking at is obviously not perfect, however to find a 55 Nomad in any condition is a rare find, much less a 4 speed car, which this is. Originally finished in Shoreline Beige and Gypsy red the car has been repainted orange with a white top. Overall, the car is in very good, solid condition with no rot to the body. There are some spots of filler which is not uncommon, but overall it is very straight and solid. Around the rear wheels is where most of the filler was found. The bottom of the rear door is solid as well as the rockers. The chrome bumpers are solid and does not have any major damage to either the front or rear but they are faded and pitted. The rear window is plastic. The interior, originally finished in beige and red, has been changed to black. The seats are older but in very good, solid condition. The brand new carpet and headliner are both in very good condition with no rips or tears. All the headliner bows are intact and look great with no pitting showing. There is some pitting to the chrome and stainless inside the car around the windows. There have been Sunpro gauges installed under the dash that all work with no problems. Under the hood, there is a 355 Cu In V8 that is fed through a Holley carb and intake. The motor is said to be producing around 375 horsepower. With a turn of the key, the car starts with ease and drives down the road with no problems. The brakes perform well and the car steers straight. The car does not have power steering or brakes. The clutch and 4 speed manual transmission perform as they should and feel very strong. The underside of the car does have some rust to the floors as you can see in the photos. The bottom of the tailgate is not rotted out and the spare tire compartment is solid as well. The current mileage shows 93,000 which is believed to be actual for the car but the motor has been changed out. The VIN number is C55F127232 and the car is being sold on a clean title.
