Description

The Kellison car company was founded in the 1950s by Jim Kellison. He spent over two years of designing and testing before the first kellison was offered to the public in 1957. These original early kellison bodies were very flimsy so in the following year of1958 more refinements were made to the cars. Kellison added inner fender panels firewalls dashboards assembled doors and other small improvements in order to make the final product easier to build and enjoy. These early bodies where constructed using a chopper gun technique. This technique let the user work quickly while a strict quality control was enforced. One of the first cars offered by Kellison was the J-4. It is a low slung two seat sports car. Available as either a sport coupe or roadster. With a roof height of only 39" it was a awesome sight in the late 1950s. These early cars came with a Chuck Manning designed box tube frame. It employed beam axles at both ends. A later updated X frame used corvette suspension at both ends was developed by the kellison company. You could purchase an original J-4 for only $640.00.Kellison continued his refinements and later introduced the J-5 still a two seater but with a stretched wheelbase now up to 102" offering a little more room inside. The J-5 also had dual headlights and recessed taillight openings. The doors were lengthened 5" to make entering and exiting easier and the roof was raised one inch for more headroom. The J-5 was offered to the public at a price of only $700.00. What you see here, is one of those J-5 examples. Built on a Kellison square tubular frame, the car comes with a balanced and blueprinted 350 Cu In V8 that produces over 400 horsepower. Connected to a Fairbanks Racing Automatic transmission, this car is a rocket. The body is in very good condition with no damage evident anywhere on it. The paint does show some very minor cracking in a few places but overall it looks very good. The paint has a very nice shine to it and the fiberglass, lift off hood secures tight with 4 pins. Now, this is car does have T-tops that do lift off with no problems which is a rare option for these cars. The front window is plastic. Inside, the interior comes mostly from a 70's Corvette. This includes the dash, shifter and seats which are all in good condition. The center console has had custom panels placed on either side. This car is mostly complete, but could use some freshening and tightening up depending on your desire. The carpet is brand new and look good along with the seats that have been recently recovered. Under the hood, the car is powered by a 350 Cu In, 400+ horsepower V8. Fed with dual Holley 4bbl carbs and a high rise intake, the car is a rocket. The horsepower is put to the wheels through a Fairbanks Racing automatic transmission that shifts with no problems. Ignition is handled through an MSD box mounted on the firewall. This car is titled as a 1966 Kellison on a clean Florida title showing that the previous owner had the car from 1986 through 2002. The car was sold to us in 2002 and has been in our ownership since. The current mileage on the car shows 26,846 but we are not sure if this is actual for the car or not. VIN number is 664327350.
