Volkswagen made only minor upgrades to its popular Beetle for 1976. The car was now fully carpeted, and came with a rear window defroster and special metallic paint in addition to other standard paint colors. The front seats were redesigned for improved comfort, and the adjustments for the seat backs were improved as well. Also, the Super Beetle was discontinued. The Beetle came with an air-cooled, rear-mounted, fuel-injected four-cylinder engine that generated 58 horsepower. A four-speed manual transmission, dual braking system, four-wheel independent suspension, and a flow-through ventilation system were also part of the package.Standard features for the Beetle included seat belts for the driver and passengers, two-speed windshield wipers with a pneumatic washer system, swiveling sun visors, coat hooks, assist straps, folding rear seats, and luggage space under the front hood and in a three-foot carpeted compartment behind the rear seats. A convertible top was optional.The paint on this car is in very good condition. It is newer and has been resprayed in the past few years. The body is very straight and has no bubbling or rot to be found. The doors line up straight and shut with no problems and are tight. The convertible top on the car is new and goes up and down with no problems. There are no rips, tears or staining to the convertible top. The plastic rear window is in good condition with no staining. Inside, the seats are in great condition as well as the carpet. The seat bottom on the driver's seat has been reupholstered in a different style vinyl then the rest of the seats. The door panels and dash are also new and in great condition. There has been a Pioneer AM/FM CD player installed which works with no problems and sounds great coming out of the Pioneer speakers. All lights, blinkers, wipers and horn work with no problems. The little 4 cylinder under the rear bonnet is out of an earlier 70's carbureted bug and runs great. Turn the key and the car starts right up with no problems. The previous owner informed us that the motor had been rebuilt at the time of the restoration but we have no receipts in hand for this. On the road, the car drives very straight and has plenty of power connected to the four speed manual transmission. The clutch feels strong but the brakes are a bit soft. They do stop the car with no problems. The underside of the car has a new floor pan installed which still looks new. The wheels and VW hubcaps are all in great condition as well as the spare and are wrapped with newer radial tires that have good tread life left on them. The current mileage on the car is showing 14162 and the VIN number is 1562068547. The car is being sold on a clean Missouri title.
