Description

The Corvette Nomad was a 1954 proto-type that debuted at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel in New York City for General Motors Motorama. It has been called the WALDORF ever since. It was such a huge success that some of the unique features were applied to a Chevrolet Belair two-door station wagon and it was put into production as a Nomad in 1955. All of the 8,530 bodies were made at the Cleveland plant and shipped to the Flint, Baltimore, St. Louis, Los Angeles, Jamestown, Tarrytown, Atlanta, Kansas City, Oakland, Willow Run, and Norwood plants to be assembled. The 1957 models received no special trim. All interior and exterior trim are interchangeable with other Bel Air models. Even though there were fewer 1957 Nomads produced, and it had no special trim, it is arguably the most popular with collectors today. Of the 6,534 Nomads produced in 1957, this car is one of the finest in existence today. With a correct, OEM interior recently installed, A/C, power steering, power disc brakes, new glass and 350 V8 engine the car is a joy to drive. Finished in the original color combination of Inca Silver with Imperial Ivory roof, the paint is in excellent condition with almost no imperfections. Both front and rear bumpers look great with no pitting or dents, along with the steel trim which is equally as nice. All the tinted glass is new around the car and shows no scratches, chips or cracks. Both doors shut tight with little effort and the body lines are all straight with no unusual gaps. Inside, the interior is all new and has been finished in almost all OEM products. Seats, carpet, door panels and headliner are all nearly perfect with no wear to be found. All the chrome headliner bows look great and are newly rechromed. There has been seatbelts installed for both front and rear seats for added safety. The steering wheel is a nice touch, it retains the original style but is smaller in diameter then stock for more comfortable driving. All lights, blinkers and wipers work with no problems as well as the horn. The car was recently safety inspected in the state of Texas and passed with no problems. Under the hood, there is a 350 Cu In V8 producing 350 horsepower connected to a 350 transmission. With an Edelbrock 4 bbl carb and intake, the car runs great and has tons of power. The engine compartment is nicely detailed and shows very well. This is a power steering and power brake car with a disc brake front end. There has been an aftermarket A/C compressor and condensor unit installed but it is currently not hooked up. The heat does work with no problems. The exhaust is a new dual Thrush Muffler system which sounds great. The underside of the car is in very good, solid condition and has been lightly undercoated. There is no rot that we have seen. The tires are brand new white wall radials that are wrapped around Chevrolet wheels and Hubcaps which show no curb rash or damage. On the road the car drives great and very straight and true. This is a fantastic '57 that is sure to please the new owner. The current mileage shows 14,754 and the VIN number is VC57L132164. The car is being sold on a clean Texas title where it has been through the last two owners.
