Description

The Fiat 1100 was first introduced in 1937 and was produced until 1969, spanning three generations of the car. The 1100 was an updated version of the 508 "Balilla" or 508C, with a look similar to the 1936 Fiat 500. It was powered by a 1089 cc four cylinder, overhead valve, engine. Drive to the rear wheels was through a four speed manual gearbox. Subsequently the car underwent a partial restyling around the front end and gained new streamlined window-shaped louvres and was re-named the 1100B and popularly known as the "1100 musone". After World War II, in 1949, the car was re-introduced with a curvy trunk and new name, the 1100E. Both the 508C and the 1100B were also available as the long wheelbase 508L and mainly used for vans and taxis. In 1953 the 1100 was completely redesigned as a compact 4-door sedan, with modern "monocoque" bodywork and integrated front lights. Between 1956 and 1960 the new 1100 underwent several slight changes in fittings and details like a newly designed grill, more rectangular profile, dual color dressing, and eventually small fintails with spear-shaped backlights. The last year of the second generation 1100 was 1961. This is one of those examples and is an extremely rare site to be seen in the United States. A year and a half ago, this car went though a mild restoration to make it mechanically sound and very road worthy. The interior was also completely replaced in this 45,000 ORIGINAL mile car! The paint on the car is in great condition and is new. No imperfections to be found anywhere on the body which is very solid. No bubbling or rot anywhere to the body. The front and rear steel bumpers are both in great condition as is the rest of the steel trim. The only spot where there is some pitting is to the original door handles and to the chrome pieces on the trunk. The weather stripping is original for the car and does show some cracking and dry rot. Inside, the seats have been newly reupholstered and the carpet is new as well. The blue seats with white piping look great with no wear. No rips, tears or major wear to be found anywhere inside. The dash has been painted the same color as the exterior of the car and looks great. There is a bit of discoloration to the speedometer glass. All lights are in good working order as well as the horn and wipers. Under the hood the little four cylinder runs great and starts right up with a turn of the key. Connected to the four speed manual transmission on the column the car drives down the road with surprising speed. During the restoration the battery was replaced along with all four tires and brakes, a new water pump was installed as well as a new starter, alternator and gas tank. This little car is capable of doing highway speeds while using very little gas. If you're looking for a gas saver that's not like the rest, you just found it! The underside of the car is very solid with no rot to be found. The current mileage shows 44,970 and the VIN number is 660246. The car is being sold on a clean Kansas title showing mileage of 44,910.
