The Impala was restyled on the existing GM B platform for 1961. The new body styling was more trim and boxy than the 1958-60 models. Sport Coupe models featured a "bubbletop" roofline style for '61, and a unique model, the 2-door pillared sedan, was available for 1961 only. It was rarely ordered and a scarce collectible today. The rare Super Sport (SS) option debuted for 1961 as well. This particular car is one of those famed Bubbletop Impala's. With a frame off restoration being completed in 1997, the car still retains a great look today. This car was purchased from us by a gentleman in Tennessee when the mileage showed only 69,000. He has put over 2,000 miles on it since, including a trip to Florida where he got 21 Miles Per Gallon! With a 700R4 transmission and 3.08 gears, this car was built to be driven comfortably at highway speeds. The metallic black paint on the car is in great condition with no major flaws that we have found. The front and rear chrome bumpers look great along with all the steel and chrome trim going around the car. No major pitting to be found anywhere, grill included. The body is very solid with no bubbling and all the door shut tight with proper gaps. Inside, the interior looks almost as good as when it was done in 1997. Seats, door panels, carpet and headliner are all in great condition with no major wear to be found. The dash is solid and painted nicely with no cracking. There has been an aftermarket AM/FM stereo installed in the car that works with no problems and sounds great. All lights, blinkers, horn, wipers work with no problems so this car is road ready. There has also been an aftermarket tachometer installed. Under the hood, there is a 350 Cu In V that runs great. The car does have power steering, power brakes and A/C which works and blows cold! The engine compartment is nicely detailed and looks very good. With a turn of the key, the car starts right up and goes down the road very smooth and will cruise at 70 mph with no problems. In the trunk, there is a full size spare as well as a jack. The floors are solid as well as the trunk with no rot that we have found to either.
