Description

The 1957-1959 Imperial LeBaron, Imperial's premium series, introduced with the expanded 1957 line and named after the great '30s coachworks that did some of its best work on Imperial chassis. Only two identically priced four-door models -- pillared sedan and pillarless Southampton hardtop -- pitched $400-500 above comparable Crowns and thus not very popular when new, but worth seeking out now for that, as well as somewhat greater luxury. (LeBaron was Chrysler's answer to the Cadillac 60 Special.) These are bodily and mechanically the same as less costly contemporaries. This particular Imperial is a true, one owner car that was purchased new on February 7th, 1958. The car was said to have been ordered exactly as you see it with the striking color combination of Gauguin Red with blue interior. This is said to be an 82,000 original mile car and still on an actual mileage Ohio title! The original owner of this car told us that he originally purchased the car and drove it until 1967. At 67,803 miles, he then put the car in storage in Virginia where it sat until 1980. He then moved to Ohio and rarely drove the car until 2001 when the car showed 74,044 miles. In 2004 the speedometer broke with 77,659 miles and that is what it is currently showing. Now, he did keep track of his estimated mileage after this though and is said to have put about 5,000 miles on the car since. From 2001 there was almost $10,000 invested in improvements. These included new U-Joint shaft, upper and lower front ball joints, major brake work, power windows and motors refurbished, radiator rebuilt, new fuel pump and starter, new rear leaf springs in 2002, rebuilt transmission in 2005, new hoses and belts in 2008 and a final tune up before he sold it in March of 2009. The paint on the car is in very good condition and still retains a good shine and luster. The car has had a repaint a number of years ago but still retains all the original trim pieces and bumpers. There are no major imperfections to the paint but the trim is showing a bit of pitting and some scratches. The same goes for the front and rear bumpers. They show no damage, but are showing their age. There is a small dent to the front of the driver's side fender just above the headlights. As you can see in the photos, there is some bubbling to the lower rockers as well as the bottom of the doors. This is not major, but it is there. Inside the interior appears to be almost all original. It appears that nothing has been updated since new inside this car and it is in overall good condition. There are some spots of staining to the door panels and rear seats specifically. The dash is in good condition and is very solid but is showing some buckling. Steering wheel shows some minor cracking but is overall solid. The front and back seat are both in good condition as is the headliner and carpet which only shows some minor stated that was previously noted. Just about everything on the car works including the power antenna, turn signals, wipers, headlights and horn. This is an A/C car but it is currently not blowing cold. Under the hood is the original 392 Cu in V8 Hemi engine that produces 325 horsepower which runs great. The car starts right up with no smoking or hesitation. On the road the car drives very well with no major issues. The underside of the car is very solid with no undercoating to the floors. There is some rot to the rear trunk supports at the very rear of the car. Frame is solid and the floors are as well. VIN number is C5732440 and the car is being sold on an actual mileage Ohio title.
