Description

Imperial's advertising campaign for 1962 was directed at the top professionals in America. It invited them to accept the offer to have a new Imperial delivered to them for a test drive. The black and white ads generally ran in National Geographic and other appropriate magazines. Some of the ads were directed specifically to Doctors or Attorneys, and admonished that if somehow your invitation missed you, just write to the General Manager of the Imperial Division (on your letterhead). With a base price of $5,770, these car's were not cheap and was obvious who the Imperial was geared to. With only 554 produced in 1962, there are only a hand full of these convertibles out there. The car was originally finished in a light yellow but has been resprayed red. The red is a low quality paint job that does have some dirt in the paint and some obvious imperfections. There are some spots under the hood and in the jambs that there is still yellow. The upside is that the body on the car is very solid overall with the only spot that we have found filler are two very small places behind the rear wheels. The rest of the body is solid with only a few very small bubbles around the rear wheel wells minus some rot to the passenger side front quarter (see photos). The convertible top on the car looks good but the plastic rear window seams are coming apart from the top at the bottom corners. The rams have been disconnected to the power top but it still goes up and down manually. The pump and motor both still work, it's just not connected to the top itself. Inside, the interior appears to be the original Alabaster White Leather which is in very good overall condition. The seats show no major wear or tears, only some minor staining from age. The passenger side seat cover is broken as you can see in pictures. The dash is solid as is the carpet which appears to be newer but does have some wear on the driver's side. The front seat is 4 way power and works with no problems as does the power antenna, lights, wipers, horn and all power windows. Under the hood, the motor is in good, original condition. The engine bay has been sprayed black but the motor has been mainly untouched. The motor is believed to be the original 413 Cu In V8 with 4bbl carb and pushbutton automatic transmission. This is an original A/C car but it is currently not blowing. The motor appears to be very original and unmolested for the most part, including the original Cruise Control system which is currently inoperable. If you are looking for a fun, rare driver then this is the car for you. Keep it like it is or put some money into it and restore it to the level that you love. Take advantage of this rare opportunity to get your hands on one of the rarest Crown Imperial's ever produced. The current mileage shows 73,608 and the VIN number is 9223152962. The car is being sold on a clean Missouri title.
