Description

The 1963 Chrysler 300J featured all-new styling by Virgil Exner. It characterized the Chryslers of this period, billed as having "the crisp, clean custom look." The 300 letter-series was the cleanest of the range, with a blacked-out grille and conservative side treatment. The 300J was faster than the standard 300H of the year before, with a 142 mph top speed, 8.0 seconds 0-60 mph, and a standing quarter mile time of 15.8 seconds. With only 400 of these cars produced, this is the rarest of the 300's ever made. This particular car comes with a copy of the original invoice that shows the complete list of options as well as a copy of the build sheet. This car was originally sold in Phoenix Arizona where it stayed until 1985 when it went to Homewood Illinois. During the late 1980's this car went through a complete cosmetic restoration as well as having the engine pulled and completely rebuilt. We have receipts for all of this work that total around $6,000. The car stayed in Illinois until 2002 when it was purchased by the last owner who added it to his collection of Chrysler letter cars. The paint on the car is still in very good condition with no major imperfections, only some minor spots of touch up. The car is finished in the original color of Oyster White (WW1). The body is very solid with no rot that we have found. These cars are known to rust out but this particular car is very solid all around. There are no major spots of filler that we have found anywhere on the body. I recently went around the body with a magnet and only found one spot that was in front of the drivers side rear wheel where there is a slight bit of filler. The magnet still sticks though. Both front and rear bumpers are solid with no major damage but they are slightly faded. Inside, the original leather seats are in great condition and show no major wear. The carpet appears to be original and does have some wear and fading which is not uncommon for a 46 year old car. It appears that the interior is almost completely original and unmolested. The drivers side seat cushion is pulling away from the seat back slightly as you can see in the pictures. There is also some cracking to the steering wheel and the center horn button is missing. Dash is solid as well as the headliner which is in good condition. All gauges on the car appear to be in good working order as well as the A/C which blows, but not cold. The list of options that this car came with is as follows: Radio - Golden Touch Tuner (7-Button), Power antenna, A/C with heater, Tinted glass / all windows, Outside left remote control mirror, Sure grip differential, Anti freeze, Power bucket seat - 4 way, Manufacturer's certificate, 7.60x15 tires. The 413 Cu In Cross Ram V8 with twin 4bbl carbs under the hood runs great. The motor is nicely detailed with chrome air cleaners on top of the dual 4bbl carbs. Connected to the three speed automatic transmission and 3.23 rear axle, the car is a joy to drive and has tons of power coming from the big V8. The car does have power steering and power brakes as well as A/C which was an expensive option on the car. The rarest of the 300's, this car is a great example of the letter cars of the 60's. The car comes with a box full of documentation, receipts and literature about the car as well as the previous owners, one of whom had had multiple starts in the Indianapolis 500 back in the 80's. The current mileage shows 53,653 and the VIN number is 8433195286. The car is being sold on a clean Missouri title. Take a look at our other auctions for a stunning, original mileage 1964 300K!
