Description

Probably no other station wagon had a better marketing name than Town & Country. For they were equally at home doing chores for mom, around town by dropping off the kids for a little league game or doing some shopping, or taking dad and his buddies out for a weekend of fishing, camping, or just enjoying the outdoors. In the New Yorker line, these cars were not cheap, with a base price of $4,023, extras like radio, heater, and automatic transmission could take the final price tag over the $5,000 mark. This well appointed example, one of just 1,255 ever produced, is fitted with all of the above mentioned accessories, as well as very desirable power steering. Finished in the original colors of Everglades Green Metallic with a very attractive dark brown and tan leather interior trim, this station wagon is one of the few survivors from that limited run. Powered by the Hemi V8 and Power-Flite transmission, driving this beauty in 1954 must have been quite a thrill as it is today. With station wagons being one of the strongest segments in the collector-car world, this Town & Country is sure to be a head-turner wherever it goes. The paint is showing its age and is dull but it appears that it is the original paint for the car. The same goes for the front and rear chrome bumpers which are both in very good condition overall with just some pitting and scratches showing from age. The steel trim around the car looks good with some minor dents or dings, but nothing uncommon from 56 years of age. There is some pitting around the rear tail lights, vent windows and rear trim. The bottoms of the doors are showing a bit of bubbling as you can see in photos. Inside, the original colored leather seats are in great condition with no major wear to the front or back seat. The carpet appears to be newer and is in very good condition. In the rear, there is a wood floor that extends up the back of the rear seat. When folded down, you have over 6 feet of space to haul whatever you want to throw in there. The wood is in very good condition overall with minimum wear from age. The headliner appears to be original and is in very good condition, only showing a few very minor imperfections. Under the hood, The 331 Cu In Hemi V8 engine rated at 235 horsepower is connected to the rare and optional two-speed Power-Flite automatic transmission. This was a rare and expensive options on these wagons in 1954. The car runs out very well with no smoking or hesitation. The engine compartment is very clean and original. The four-wheel hydraulic drum brakes are manual but the car does have power steering. This is a very rare and unique original car that was at the top of the Chrysler line up back in 1954. These rarely come up for sale and even more rare are the options and originality of this particular car. The current mileage shows 100,388 and the VIN number is 76609465. The car is being sold on a clean Missouri title. Use the car as an original driver in its current state or restore it to its original splendor. Either way you are certain to fall in love with this Town and County Wagon.
