Its appearance followed the concept show car in 1954 called the Mercury XM-800.The vehicle name was introduced in 1955 and applied to Mercury's premium automobile line. Ford historians are at a loss as to where the name originated; the consensus is that it's taken from the upper class community of Montclair, N.J. For 1955 and 1956, Montclairs featured Mercury's best appointments, extra chrome trim, and different two-tone paint combinations to set them apart from other Mercury products. 1956 was the year that Ford introduced its Lifeguard safety program, and the Mercury Montclair came standard with a deep-dish steering wheel to help protect the driver from the steering column, safety door locks, a breakaway rear view mirror, and optional seat belts and padded dashboards. The dash was redesigned with a new three-tier instrument panel. The Montclair name took some time off but was resurrected in 1964. There were 15,520 of these sedans produced in the U.S.Gone are your days of looking for a '60s full-size sedan to add to your collection. MotoeXotica has what you want with this 1964 Mercury Montclair Breezeway Sedan. You could start anywhere and be amazed by how appealing and correct this car feels. This very well-kept car was a corporate-owned vehicle, first by the Merrill-Palmer Institute in 1964 then Tyson Foods Inc. of northwest Arkansas. The exterior is a wonderful Pacific Blue paint on a straight body; the professional paint job is recent and cost $5,000. The operable rear breezeway window will give you extra air as you cruise down the highway. See your reflection in the original chrome bumpers and emblems. Overall, the beautiful brightwork as a whole is as stunning as it was in the early 1960s.The spectacular features don't stop there. Windshield washers and wheel covers, optional at the time of manufacturing, come with this car. This car left the factory loaded with all these options. While inside, take a moment to enjoy the original blue cloth and vinyl interior. The gauges, horn and lights work and the wipers are operable. The trunk area and trunk mat are also original and in excellent condition. The atmosphere of this Montclair's interior legitimately brings you back to the '60s.Under the hood, you will find a tidy and correct engine bay housing the optional, high-compression Marauder 390-CID V8 engine (266 HP) with two-barrel carburetor. The car comes with factory-option Merc-O-Matic dual range automatic transmission and power steering.Yet the car doesn't run like it's almost 50 years old. The car recently benefited from new hoses, belts, tail light lenses, a new air filter and full exhaust system. The history shows this car is almost 50, however. Included with this auto is the Mercury ID card, the original build sheet and even the original window sticker! The great combination of high pedigree and quality isn't seen too often, and MotoeXotica's 1964 Mercury Montclair Sedan has what makes the combination great. Buying it from our showroom will be like driving out of the factory yourself. GET OUT AND DRIVE!
