Description

A new batch of Windsor models were released by the Chrysler Corporation in 1953. Continuing in rear wheel drive form, the engine was situated in the front. This time around a V8 engine powered the Chrysler Windsor. Capable of a very secure ride, the new Windsor featured a 230 bhp and torque of 310 ft-lbs. A 3-speed automatic transmission was now offered. Able to seat up to five passengers, the new Windsor was both roomy and comfortable. The final Chrysler Windsor known to Americans was introduced in 1961 for only two years, 1965 and 1966. In Canada, the Chrysler Corporation released a Windsor model basically equivalent to the Newport in the U.S. for those years. Until the 1961 model year, the Windsor was the Chrysler price leader until the Chrysler Newport took the spot. The Windsor name was replaced in 1962 by the non-lettered series Chrysler 300. This particular 1956 Chrysler Windsor has recently emerged from 15 years of storage, and continues to display a mostly original paint finish in black with newer paint on the roof, accented by the original bright trim. The car is a very solid example and is finished in Raven Black and Cloud White. The body is in good, solid condition with no bubbles or rot that we have found. The paint is thin in a few places and there are a few spots of touch up. None of these spots are major. The front and rear steel bumpers are in good condition overall with only some pitting and scratches showing. Inside, the original salmon and black upholstery is in very good condition with slip covers on the front and back. The seats do show some minor staining but have no tears or major wear. Carpets are all in good condition as well as the door panels which all appear newer. Dash is in good condition and all gauges are in good working order. The car does have a dealer-installed "Equip-Aire 707" air conditioning unit that works perfectly and blows cool, just not ice cold. It may just be in need of a recharge. All lights work inside and out as well as the wipers. Under the hood, the 331 Cu In V8 runs great and starts up with just a turn of the key. The engine isn't highly detailed but very clean. Power steering and power brakes were both standard on the car. The push button, two-speed PowerFlite automatic transmission shifts as it should with no problems. Suspension is handled with an independent front suspension with coil springs and live rear axle with semi-elliptic leaf springs. Brakes are hydraulic drum brakes all around with a wheelbase of 126.This is a great, original car that has years left in it. The current mileage shows 39,942 on the car and the VIN number is W5656960.
