The 550 Spyder was the first production race car designed by Dr. Porsche. It features a true mid-engine design. Its light weight and powerful engine provide an exciting car for much less than the cost of an original that sell for upwards of $1 million. Approximately 90 original cars were built and they won many races. This replica lists for more than $40,000.00 with the numerous options fitted such as a genuine wood Grant steering wheel, a SCAT 0-miles engine, Brandwood cable shifter, CNC hydraulic HD Kennedy clutch, remote oil cooler with an electric fan and oil filter, a 3.88 freeway flyer TransWorks four-speed transaxle, a badge package, leather hold-down straps, and a rare matching removable hardtop, etc. This replica of one of the most famous German cars of the 1950s and was originally developed by Chuck Beck. It provides the appearance of the original with significant modern mechanical improvements: powered by Type I flat four, air cooled engines like the originals, but with a 1914 cc engine, an increased displacement of 20% over the original 1600 ccs. Many other engine improvements include high energy electronic ignition, an alternator charging system, remote oil filter, remanufactured heavy-duty four speed transaxle, disk front brakes and modern radial tires for improved braking and handling. It is built on a new 3 inch DOM tube frame, just like the original Spyder, and a major improvement over the typical VW-based pan frame used in some Spyder replicas. It has a hand-laid fiberglass body and is painted in Sikkens color and clear coat paint. (Sikkens is the OEM paint supplier to many high-end auto manufacturers.) The interior has red leather seats and matching carpets. A fully functional racing gas filler is fitted. This low mileage replica is available at a low reserve.
