By 1940, International offered more than 50 different truck models, among them the new K-series pickup line, introduced at mid-year. Typical of the era, K's sported heavy domed roofs and pointed hoods, but headlamps were integral with the fenders which was a rather modern idea for trucks. After civilian production resumed in 1947, the K-series evolved into the KB, with only minor changes to the 1947-1949 International KB-2 pickup models, though the barrel-shaped grille now sprouted little "wings" at the bottom. This particular 1949 KB 3 is one of several vehicles that came out of a collection in Montana where it has been since 1967. The paint on the truck looks very good overall with no major imperfections to be found. The truck is extremely solid with no rot to be found. The stake bed was also restored when the rest of the truck was and looks great. It has been freshly stained to protect it from the elements. This truck is the 130" wheelbase, 3/4 ton, stake bed version which would make for a great vintage work truck or just a toy for around the farm. The center section at the rear of the bed will lift up and out to make loading and unloading easier. Inside, the original style interior remains. The seat is finished in a green vinyl that matches the exterior of the truck. What's remarkable inside is that all the gauges work with no problems. From the odometer to the fuel and amp gauges, everything works including the electric wipers. There is some cracking to the steering wheel but it is not falling apart. All the glass in the truck is good with no cracks or damage. Power for the 1947-1949 International KB series pickups was provided by the "Green Diamond" six, a 214-cid flathead producing 82 bhp at 3400 rpm and 160 lbs/ft of torque at 1200 rpm. While the peak-torque rpm seems low, consider that the KB idles at only 350 rpm. The truck has been updated with an electric fuel pump to improve its performance and reliability. The truck starts right up with no problems and goes down the road with plenty of power. The rear end is the original style from International.The underside of the truck is very solid with no rot to be found. On the road the truck rides like expected and is not exactly a Cadillac! Put your logo on the side for advertising or use the truck for parades and hay rides. Whatever your use, the truck will bring a ton of enjoyment and fun.
