Description

Plymouth continues its rising sales, just about the only car to do so during the Great Depression. While styled nearly identically to the 1929 Model U Plymouth, the 1930 Model 30-U Plymouths had an "all steel" body. Externally the most visible change is to a wide radiator shell much more in keeping with the industry standard. The fuel gauge was moved from the top of the tank and put on the dash and becomes an electrical instrument. Hydraulic shock absorbers replace the earlier friction type. There were many running changes during production of the 30-U. Early production had a vacuum tank fuel pump. This changed to a mechanical fuel pump and a water pump was added. There were three different types of wire wheels used with three different bolt patterns. Early wood wheels were de-mountable rims while the later wood wheels were removable. On April 8th, 1930 production of the 30-U began with VIN number 1,500,001. With VIN number 1502501, it shows that this particular car was the 2,500 produced that year. The car has gone through an older restoration to bring it to the condition that you see today. The body on the car is extremely solid with no rot that we have seen. This is an all steel body along with steel fenders. The paint is in very good condition with only some minor scratches and dings to the paint. The steel bumpers are both in very good condition with no damage showing to either. The rest of the steel trim around the headlights and grill are equally as nice. Inside, the reupholstered seats look great and have only very minor wear. The door panels are equally as nice as is the carpet which shows no major wear. The dash has been painted the same color of the rest of the car with no blemishes. Gauges appear to be working with no problems and both headlights work as well on high and low. The four cylinder engine under the hood runs great. The motor was recently rebuilt and the carb is newer. There has been an electric fuel pump installed to improve starting and reliability. The car runs extremely well. With a push of the pedal, the car starts right up and runs down the road with no problems. We have had no problems with the battery being run down by faulty wiring or grounds. Clutch is strong and the car shifts with no problems. On the road, the car will do 40+ mph with no issues. This is a great classic that is rarely seen in this kind of condition. The VIN number is 1502501 which shows that the car is car number 2,500 that was produced in 1930. Current mileage shows 34,528 and the car is being sold on a clean Kentucky title showing that the car has had the same owner since January of 1996.
