Description

Since 1950 Jaguar had been building large, separate chassis saloon cars, starting with the Mk VII. In 1958 the final derivative arrived, the Jaguar Mk IX. The Mk IX utilized the famous XK engine which had evolved into a powerful (220bhp) 3.8 liter unit, enough to haul this large saloon car up to a top speed of 117mph.The Mk IX had a body identical to that used on the previous Mk VIII, although it did have an improved heater and a new badge to distinguish it. This handsome saloon came with power steering, all-round disc brakes and a choice of manual or automatic transmission. At the time the Mk IX was considered on par with the then current Bentley S-type, even though it was a third of the price. The Mk IX was finally superseded by the Mk X late in 1961, marking the end of a distinguished line of separate chassis Jaguar saloons. This is one of the last 1961 Jaguar MK IX cars produced and was purchased new in Texas by Dallas Oil tycoon Buckner Hunt of Hunt Oil. He owned the car until around 12 years ago when he sold it to another Dallas man. He drove the car only around 1000 miles per year during his ownership. His main intent for the car was to drive it to the Cattle Barrons Ball each year in Dallas Texas. The old English white paint on the car looks great with no major blemishes to note. There are a few minor scratches and spots of touchup, but nothing major. Both front and rear bumpers look very good with only some minor scratches and dings showing to both. No major dents or pitting. All the glass is in good condition as well as the steel trim and emblems. This is all said to be the original for the car. This is a fantastic automobile that is very rarely seen in this condition. The car is currently being sold on a mileage exempt Texas title with VIN number of 793398BW and the current mileage shows 55,031 and is believed to be original for the car. GET OUT AND DRIVE!
