He served with the Royal Flying Corps during World War I, but he was invalided out in 1917 after crashing. In the early 1920s, he became involved in motor sport and joined sports car manufacturer Invicta in 1930. In 1931, he won the Monte Carlo Rally while driving for Invicta. Healey subsequently worked for Riley and Triumph, two other British motor companies. He formed the Donald Healey Motor Company in Warwick in 1945 and became a manufacturer.By 1952, Healey was looking for an engine supplier who could provide a large volume at a reasonable cost. He built a prototype car using the Austin A90 engine, had it bodied by Tickford, and put it on display at the London Motor Show. There, the Healey 100 was born. Leonard Lord, head of the British Motor Corporation, liked the car enough to adopt it virtually on the spot. Production was moved to Longbridge, and there it became the Austin-Healey 100. The Austin-Healey 100-4 was followed by the 100-6 in 1956, which later evolved into the 3000 series.Interestingly, Healey achieved great success in competition, particularly with the 100S, and later with the 3000. In 1956, a supercharged, streamlined version of the 100S, with Donald Healey driving, achieved 192 mph at Bonneville, whilst a similarly tuned 100-6 reached over 203 mph. The 100-6 is seen by many purists as the epitome of the Austin-Healey concept. MotoeXotica has found that epitome. The Healey 100-6 BN6 Roadster offered on our lot is finished in correct Colorado Red and has been trimmed in black with matching red interior. This 100-6 has the benefit of having been fitted with overdrive, which is ideal for continental touring - making the ride that much more comfortable. Austin-Healey only produced 4,150 units of the two-seater model - and MotoeXotica happens to have one of those. Any driver will have the essential safety features as the horn, wipers and blinkers all still function on this car.The car is a left-hand drive example, and it appears to have had a quality repaint in Colorado red with black, which complements the red interior nicely. The chrome and brightwork is in excellent condition with all the correct emblems. Your head will be covered as the fitted side screen set and bag and EverFlex soft top are in excellent condition, meaning you can take back to its British past with a drive in the drizzle just like chilly London afternoons. The sleek chrome bumper, grill and hood emblem are all in excellent condition. The pride of British motors doesn't stop there. All body trim is correct and in excellent condition as well as the rear bumper and emblem. Sitting on 48-spoke chrome wire wheels mounted on 165/80/15 tires, the streamlined features of the 100-6 are the prime example of a late 1950s British sports car. The interior is overall excellent, and you'd be hard pressed to find much wear and tear. Red is the theme here as this 100-6 has a red interior on red with red carpet, red seats, red dash, and red trim. The dashboard features all the correct Healey 100-6 instrumentation, and it has also been re-trimmed in vinyl.Safety doesn't stop there. The trunk is clean and correct, but importantly includes the correct spare tire, Thorhammer Co. hammer, and reprint of owner's manual all in excellent shape. Under the hood, the engine bay is correct and tidy. This '58 Austin-Healey 100-6 runs on a 2,639 cc engine with 117 bhp, overhead valve straight six cylinders (#26D-RU-H/63064) with dual SU HD6 carburetors. Also, the car MotoeXotica has in our showroom has an optional four-speed overdrive gearbox. The British Motor Industry Heritage Trust Certificate included to verify its authenticity. The title is also clean. Current mileage on this 100-6 is 15,634, and it was manufactured in May 1958. Whether touring the English countryside or the California coast, this '58 Austin-Heeley 100-6 is an auto that would make Union Jack proud. GET OUT AND DRIVE!
