Description

1918 Maxwell Model 25 TouringVIN: 196850--Dark Green exterior with black fenders--Folding windshield--Wooden-spoke wheels--Inline four-cylinder engines--Boyce motometer--Pre-WWII phaeton--Same owner for past 13 yearsIn an era when motorcars were still coming of age, the Maxwell Motor Company continued to churn out its vehicles. The 1916 Maxwell beat 40 other cars in a gas consumption test conducted by Yale University. With that victory, Maxwell's sales increased drastically that summer. At the end of 1916, a stock Maxwell covered 22,022 miles with no motor stops which was a world record at that time. In 1919, a Maxwell carried more than 2,200 pounds of military supplies from San Francisco to New York which took 17 days, but this task helped solidify Maxwell's spot in American car sales of the late teens to early '20s. Nicknamed "Ol' Bessy" by a previous owner, MotoeXotica Classic Cars presents an all-orignal 1918 Maxwell Model 25 Touring. This phaeton will add a pre-WWII feel to any collection.Maxwell Motor Company was an American automotive manufacturer that helped establish the early years of cars built in the U.S.A. Eventually, Maxwell was purchased by Chrysler in 1925, but many Chryslers for years to follow were based on the design of Maxwells, especially the four-cylinder engines. In 1918, Maxwell's sales pitch said that automobiles were "Once a luxury-now a utility and economy." Maxwell released six different styles of its Model 25 that year, one of which was the touring. We have acquired this 1918 Model 25 Touring you see before you, and for a 96-year old car, it is in quite great shape. This all-original phaeton is a dark green with black fenders, and the canvas top is in good condition but has a missing panel on the driver's side. The clear plastic window in the rear is in good condition as well, and the windshield folds down. This Maxwell sits on four wooden-spoke Maxwell wheels wrapped in Wards Riverside tires measuring 30x3 1/2. A Boyce motometer adorns the tip of this phaeton. The Dark Chestnut seats have minor wear here and there but still retain a great condition and are original. Under the hood, a 185-CID inline four-cylinder engine produces 21 HP, robust for the turn of the 20th century. This engine is mated with a sliding gear three-speed manual transmission, and this Maxwell has a 3.58 differential. This is a charming Maxwell that will stand out in any collection, especially one looking for an early piece of automotive history. Mileage currently reads 388, VIN is 196850, and it is being sold on a clear Oklahoma title with the same owner since 2001. GET OUT AND DRIVE!
