Mercedes-Benz introduced the 300SEL in 1968 to fill the gap betweenthe 280SE and gigantic 600. With a wheelbase 4" longer it metMercedes-Benz's customers needs for more interior space but its performancewith the 2,778cc six-cylinder engine left much to be desired. Fortunately,Mercedes-Benz had the answer: the 6.3 liter single overhead camshaft lightalloy cylinder head V8 that powered the 600 and Pullman. Instead of the180hp of the six, it cranked out 300hp. More importantly, it more thandoubled the six's torque. This was power that American drivers could, anddid, appreciate. The "6.3" became revered for their performance andrespected as the fastest, best-handling, most comfortable four-door sedanson the highway. This 1970 6.3 is finished in Blue with Tan interior and isequipped with air conditioning. It runs and drives and is the perfectsubject for a restoration of this rare, respected high performance sedan.
