Unimog is a range of multipurpose auto four-wheel drive medium trucks produced by Mercedes-Benz. In 1955, the first Unimog 404 S series was produced. The primary customer of the 404 S was the Federal West German army, which was re-arming in the face of the Cold War. The 404 was intended to be a mobile cross-country truck, instead of an agricultural implement. The 404 S is the most popularly produced variant.
