Pierce-Arrow Motor Car Co. was founded in 1901 by George Pierce. Its first successful model - the 1904 Great Arrow - won a competition in 1905 for most reliable auto. Two Pierce-Arrows were requested by President Howard Taft to be used for state occasions in 1909. This made the Pierce-Arrow the first official car of the White House. Warren G. Harding and Woodrow Wilson were seen in a 1921 Pierce-Arrow in Harding's 1921 inauguration. In 1933, the renowned automaker was acquired by a group of Buffalo-based bankers and businessmen who returned the mark to independent status. Engineering advancements, including the first use of hydraulic valve tappets, as well as the stunning Silver Arrow model, continued to demonstrate Pierce-Arrow's engineering prowess. Pierce-Arrow didn't just stick with family cars. The manufacturer also made fire trucks, motorcycles and bicycles. However, Pierce-Arrow production declined throughout the Great Depression. In 1935, only 137 Pierce-Arrows were built, followed by 787 examples for 1936 - far below the 3,000-unit break-even point. By March 1938, after building just 17 cars, production halted. The eight-cylinder Club Sedan of 1936 offered here has been a longtime favorite in Mr. and Mrs. Kughn's collection - so much so that after selling it several years ago, they regretted the sale, and bought it back at the next possible opportunity.Pierce-Arrows were seen as status symbols by '20s Hollywood stars, and MotoeXotica has your opportunity to drive like the rich and famous. We have on our lot a 1936 Pierce-Arrow 1601 Sedan.
