This Phaeton is one of only 852 made in 1931 making this car the rarest of the rare with only a handful remaining on the roads today.The Chevrolet Series AE Independence (or Chevrolet Independence) was an American vehicle manufactured by GM's Chevrolet division in 1931 to replace the 1930 Series AD Universal. The main change between the Series AE and the outgoing AD was two-inch increase to the wheelbase, which was now 109 inches (2,768.6 mm). It remained powered by the "Stovebolt Six" 194-CID (3,180 cc) six-cylinder engine, now producing 50 HP. Chevrolet, who owned the top spot for American car sales that year, produced just 852 Phaetons.This rarity is an older restoration, and the exterior is a two-toned Forest Green and Jet Black that has had a recent repaint. The doors have been fitted for an optional "bad weather" kit with side curtains. The black canvas top is in good condition overall. The Phaeton sits on four Chevrolet wheels with wire spokes, and two spare tires are included.Inside, the saddle leather interior shows some wear but is in good condition overall. The gauges are original, but we will note the temperature and fuel gauges are inoperable - as is the horn. However, an aftermarket Stewart Warner water temperature gauge has been installed. A 194-CID six-cylinder engine helps this rare treat run, and it is mated with a three-speed manual transmission.This unique Phaeton would make an excellent part of any classic car collection looking for old world charm.
