Hudson, the Hudson Motor Car Company was founded by eight Detroit businessmen with the goal of producing a quality automobile that would sell for less than $1,000. Under the direction of company president Roy Chapin, Sr., Hudson rolled out its first car in July 1909 and in 1910 set the record for first full-year production sales at 4,508 units. Innovations such as dual brakes and dashboard warning lights followed and, in 1916, Hudson developed the first balanced crankshaft, an advance that spawned the famous "Super Six" engine capable of higher rotational speeds than its competitors. This 1923 Hudson Super Six Touring Sedan has an older but correct restoration by Gary Emmett. Finished in correct two toned blue and black the paint shows well but does show some age. The current paint has imperfections and some small rock chips typical with an older restoration. The interior is excellent and takes you right back to the roaring 20's. The interior is finished with black leather seats and dark navy carpet that subtly matches the exterior paint. The seats are in very good condition with no signs of rips, severe cracking, or stains. The dash is mostly original with exception of the volt meter which looks to be upgraded to a later Hudson meter gauge for more accurate readings. The motometer is original and functional and is a neat piece of 1920's engineering. The black cloth soft top is in great overall condition with clear rear windows. The top does have some small imperfections and has been repaired in some areas.Under the hood, the original and correct 289 inline six engine presents itself nicely with the striking Hudson gold engine paint. The engine starts up with an electric starter and runs very smoothly. The VIN is 210992 with current mileage showing 158 miles. Car is sold with a clean title. GET OUT AND DRIVE!Driving Impressions:"The very first thing you immediately notice seeing this 1923 Hudson Super Six Touring Sedan in person is the overall size of this fine automobile much like a thoroughbred horse. The 125.5" wheelbase is very apparent and in comparison to the Model T of the same year the Hudson is 25 inches longer! No wonder customers at the time were referring to the Hudson as the "Baby Rolls" and Hudson was claiming it as the "Worlds Greatest Buy."I decided to take the Hudson to local park a couple miles away for photographs and was surprised how well the sliding 3 speed transmission shifted for a car of this time period. I personally drive many cars from this time period and really can appreciate how well this large sedan shifts and drives. The speed limit to the park is 35mph and this 1923 Hudson cruised at the speed limit effortlessly. It was true joy to watch the working motometer indicating my current speed. Another great note is being able to have an open view of those swooping front fenders as you drive down the road, which joyfully gives you the atmosphere of the old world charm this Hudson produces. If you're looking to get a unique piece of the roaring twenties this might be your only chance!"
