Description

MotoExotica is offering an all-original 1929 Excelsior Super X with a rare Goulding sidecar. First time offered for sale in 73 years! The story for this particular motorcycle is as unusual as the bike itself. The year was 1926. Andrew (Andy) Jurgensen was a 21-year old man living in South Dakota picking corn for $1.00 a day. He had seen photos of the famous Excelsior Super X and put it in his head he would own one some day. After three years of picking and saving, he had earned enough money to finally make his Super X dream a reality. He took a bus from his small town of Alcester, South Dakota to Sioux Falls to pick up his pride and joy. A brand new Excelsior Super X complete with factory Goulding sidecar. The story goes, that the day he picked up the bike a snowstorm broke loose and he rode the bike home through it all. Wild horses couldn't keep him from his dream. The motorcycle we are offering is as original as they come! The paint and Excelsior decals are all there and complete. The Corbin speedometer is complete and shows 2,108 miles, which is not believed to be actual. We have a black and white photograph of Mr. Jurgensen's nieces and nephews picture on the bike from many years gone by. We also have a color photo of Andy on the bike just after it was pulled from hibernation in his garage. Additionally, we have six other photos of Andy with his pride and joy. He was a pack rat to say the least and rarely parted with any of his worldly possessions. We have the following documentation to go with the purchase (see photos).1. "Instructions for the care and operation of the Super X". Excellent shape with no tears or rips, some fading.2. "Instructions for the care and operation of the Henderson". No rips or tears, minor water damage.3. "Instructions for the care and operation of the Excelsior". Very good condition, no rips or tears, some water damage and yellowing.4. Original invoice receipt from Excelsior Motor, Manufacturing & Supply Company dated 9/3/31 for several parts. Good condition with wear stains and grease marks.9. Last, but not least, a copy of Andy's obituary column. Andy died at the ripe old age of 92!Mr. Gary Landoen of Sioux Falls, South Dakota acquired the bike from Mr. Jurgensen. He sold the bike to another older gentlemen, Mr. Marvin Enoch in Parkville, Missouri. I purchased the bike from Mr. Enoch.Mr. Enoch purchased the cycle with the intentions of restoring the bike from the ground up. Luckily, he had come to his senses and only blasted and repainted the sidecar frame. He had the broken pinion gear repaired and the magneto rebuilt, and then put it into his collection. When I purchased the bike, it was not running. I sent it to my ace motorcycle mechanic, Gus Karnes, who brought the old man back to life. He went through the bike, replaced the rings for compression and he fired right up!
