In the early '60s, IH designed a vehicle to rival the Jeep 4x4. The first model, called the Scout 80, had a 152 four-cylinder engine standard for the make. Some early Scout models went for the RV vibe with permanently attached camper tops. The roof was raised to nearly double the original height and included tented sleeping bunks folded out of the sides. The rear of the body was extended significantly. Plans included that the Scout could be purchased as a stripped down shell ($960 installed), or as a "deluxe" unit, which included a dinette set, stand up galley, and a screened chemical toilet that retracted into the wall ($1,850 installed). The earliest models had sliding, removable doors and windows. All Scouts were manufactured in Fort Wayne, Indiana, and many came with removable travel tops to help the vehicle function as a jeep and pickup truck.MotoeXotica Classic Cars has found one of these frontrunners to today's off-road recreational vehicles with our own 1963 International Harvest Scout 80. The one in stock has a removable travel top. The exterior is a standard International Harvester Red color and has been recently sandblasted, primed and painted.Under the hood, the original 86 HP motor was replaced with a Chevrolet small block engine that can pump this off-roader up to 360 HP, helping accomplish any task asked of it and simply sounds incredible. The front windshield folds down if you want the true definition of wind in your hair. This awesome Scout was restored by its previous owner and was done right. The bed was built with fine hardwood and stainless steel and looks great. All interior was reupholstered and new carpet added throughout. All four-wheel drive functions work and will climb a tree if asked. New American aluminum wheels and new Michelin mud and snow tires compliment the additions to the Scout. The power brakes are functional; however, there is no horn unit. The wiper motor, turn signals and speedometer are inoperable. If you're looking for a fun, vintage off-road vehicle with extra punch, our 1963 International Harvester Scout 80 is a retro way to hit the road or trails on the weekends. GET OUT AND DRIVE!
