Description

The Corvette Nomad was a 1954 proto-type that debuted at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel in New York City for General Motors Motorama. It has been called the WALDORF ever since. It was such a huge success that some of the unique features were applied to a Chevrolet Belair two-door station wagon and it was put into production as a Nomad in 1955. All of the 8,530 bodies were made at the Cleveland plant and shipped to the Flint, Baltimore, St. Louis, Los Angeles, Jamestown, Tarrytown, Atlanta, Kansas City, Oakland, Willow Run, and Norwood plants to be assembled. This particular car was assembled down the street at the St. Louis assemble plant. The car you are looking at is obviously not perfect, however to find a 55 Nomad in any condition is a rare find. Many years ago this car was customized with custom interior, new paint and kidney bean wheels. It was driven for many years and then put into storage where it sat until 6 months ago. With some fresh gas, new plugs, new wheel cylinders, and a little elbow grease, we have gotten the car running and driving. The car is still going to need some work though. The tires are badly dry rotted, the exhaust needs to be replaced and there is some rust repair that needs to be done but overall this is a very solid base for a complete restoration. The floors are have some rust as well as the bottom of the back door. The body is in very good solid condition though with no holes or major bubbling. There is no rot in the spare tire well which is very unusual. The frame is also in very good, solid condition. All body lines are good on the car and the doors all open and shut very well. This car is not rotted away by any means of the imagination. Originally finished in probably the best color combination of India Ivory and Regal Turquoise, the car has been repainted green with a tan roof. The chrome bumpers are solid and does not have any major damage to either the front or rear. There is only some minor pitting showing. The same goes for the rest of the trim which is most importantly ALL THERE. Check out the factory front bumper, very cool! The interior is interesting to say the least. Originally finished in beige and turquoise it is obviously not that anymore. Lets call it "period customized" in an interesting shade of green. The seats are in good condition though and not torn up. The steel trim on either side of the seats are also in very good condition. This is an original tinted glass, A/C car and has many other options like power windows, electronic headlight eye and aftermarket tachometer on the dash. In 1955, this car was the cat's meow, loaded with factory options. Under the hood, there is a 350 Cu In V8 that comes with Edelbrock valve covers, intake, Holley carb and headers. With some fresh gas, the motor actually started rather easy and runs out very good. The exhaust system is in need of replacing so the car is rather loud now but DOES run. This is a four speed car and the clutch is strong. The car goes through all the gears as it should. We would love to be able to do the needed restoration and work to the car but we just don't have the man power or time. We would love to see the finished product when you are done with it though. The car is being sold on a clean Texas titles showing that the previous owner has had the car since May of 1992.
