Description

The Chevrolet Impala is a full-size automobile built by the Chevrolet division of General Motors introduced for the 1958 model year. Deriving its name from the southern African antelope, Chevrolet's most expensive passenger model through 1965 had become the best-selling automobile in the United States, competing against the Ford Galaxie 500 and the Plymouth Fury when full-size models dominated the market. The 1959 Chevrolet Impala was radically reworked sharing bodyshells with lower-end Buicks and Oldsmobiles as well as with Pontiac, part of a GM economy move, Chevrolets rode a wheelbase 11/2 inches longer than before. Atop a new X-frame chassis, roofs sat three inches lower, and bodies measured more than two inches wider overall. The growing size contributed to increased curb weight, one more trend of the times. Its tailfins protruded outward rather than upward. Auto tester Tom McCahill, of Mechanix Illustrated, declared that a Chevy's deck lid had "enough room to land a Piper Cub." Chevrolet eschewed the triple-taillight rear style this year with a very large, single controversial "teardrop" taillight at each side. The car you see here is a 1960 Impala. This Impala holds onto its original paint. Although the paint is still shiny, it does have some imperfections. The chrome bumpers on this car do have some minor pitting and small scratches, however they do still shine. The original Impala wheels are on the car and wrapped in newer tires. Inside, the Impala appears to still have its original interior. The seats are upholstered with red vinyl and red houndstooth cloth. The back seat does have a small hole in it. The dashboard is all original and has a FrigiKing AC unit. The headliner is also original and appears to have been stitched together.Under the hood, you will find a clean engine bay, housing a 283 V8 with a two barrel carburetor. Connected to the V8 is an automatic transmission. This car also has power steering. We aren't representing this as a perfect Impala and are selling it as you see it and as described. The VIN number is 01837S292545 and the current mileage shows 45,898 which is said to be original for the car. This would make an excellent vehicle for restoration!
