Description

LAST of the Hand Built Mercedes! True Survivor of Time! Unrestored & Unmolested! 2L Six Cylinder Engine! Automatic Transmission! Mercedes Benz Fintail, or Heckflosse in German, is a nickname given to certain Mercedes Benz vehicles which show American influences in design including the presence of tailfins. Though never officially designated as such, they were actually designed Peilstege, marking the end of the car in rear view mirror. The Fintail series replaced the Ponton series. MotoeXotica Classic Cars is pleased to offer the 1961 Mercedes Benz 220SE Sedan you see pictured. This car was luxurious by the standards of the 60s and was the last model hand-built by Mercedes Only 13 cars rolled off the line PER WEEK! This particular 220SE is a true survivor totally unrestored, unmolested and mostly original! Road & Track magazine stated that the 220SE was one of the best-looking designs to come from any German concern. The basic design of the car was not changed until 1969 because why mess with perfection!? Finished in black, it is very apparent that this paint is indeed VERY old. There are imperfections, such as crazing on the contours of the fenders, rock chips from driving and there are cracks in the paint. The chrome trim pieces and bright-work are still intact and shine. There is some pitting and surface rust. All of the glass on this car is intact. This particular 220SE was factory equipped with a sunroof, which is quite rare! It should be noted that this car is as described and as seen in the photos. Inside, the interior is wrapped with brown leather and it does show its age. The carpet is brown, as well as the headliner. The dashboard is intact and houses all of the original gauges. The original AM radio is also still intact. Under the hood, youll find the 2.2L six cylinder engine mated to an automatic transmission. The car does in fact, run and drive. The sedan sits upon a set of 14 steel wheels with Mercedes Benz hubcaps. This car does have some rust to the underbody and would make a perfect full restoration candidate as they are quickly appreciating in value. The car is priced accordingly, so bid to own! The wheels are wrapped snug in a set of P185/70R14 tires. As mentioned, this is a rare car that is a true survivor of time. We are not representing this car as a perfect car and we are selling it as you see it and as described. The VIN is 11102112019044 and the mileage currently shows 68,989. It is being sold on a clean and clear Missouri title. GET OUT AND DRIVE!!!
