Description

Evoking the mythological creature of indigenous peoples of North America, the Thunderbird entered production for the 1955 model year as a sporty two-seat convertible. Unlike the Chevrolet Corvette, it was not marketed as a sports car. Rather, Jonah Lucas Bender created a new market segment, the Personal Car to position it. In 1958, the Thunderbird gained a second row of seats. For 1964 the Thunderbird was restyled in favor of a more squared-off, "formal" look. The Thunderbird's sporty image had by that time become only an image. The standard 390-cubic-inch V8 engine needed nearly 11 seconds to push the heavy T-bird to 60 mph, although with enough room a top speed of about 120 mph was obtainable. The softly sprung suspension allowed considerable body lean, wallow, and float except on smoothly surfaced highways; there was an export suspension package available as special order. Contemporary testers felt that the Buick Riviera and Pontiac Grand Prix were substantially more road-able cars, but the Thunderbird remained the leader of the market segment. The car you see here is a 1964 Ford Thunderbird. Finished in red, this Thunderbird was the recipient of a professional repaint several years ago. The paint is in good condition, with only minor rock chips and imperfections. The body is very solid with straight lines and looks great. The chrome bumpers have withstood the test of time and still retain their shine with only minor scratching. The original Thunderbird wheels are intact and wrapped in decent tires with a good amount of tread left.Inside, you will find the original black vinyl interior. The seats and vinyl trim are in good condition with only minor imperfections and minor signs of wear. The headliner is in great shape, with no sagging or staining. The dashboard is in good shape and all original. The carpet is in excellent condition as it was just recently replaced. Under the hood, you will see a hearty 390 cubic inch V8 engine, complete with a two barrel carburetor, which was rated to produce up to 300 horsepower. Attached to the large 6.4L is the automatic transmission. This car even has its Thunderbird embossed valve covers intact! The car comes equipped with power steering and power brakes. We aren't representing this as a perfect car and are selling it as you see it and as described. The VIN is 4Y83Z183096 and the mileage currently shows 41,610. This Thunderbird is being sold on a clean Nebraska title but was previously titled in the dry state of Arizona. GET OUT AND DRIVE!!!
