Originally sold by Arnold Palmer Cadillac in 1992, this fine example has stood the test of time in the most desirable color combination.Manufactured during the first week of February 1972 in Cadillacs Detroit, Michigan factory (VIN code Q), this car was purchased new at Arnold Palmer Cadillac in Charlotte, North Carolina. The dealer tag is still on the trunk lid.Finished in Sable Black (code 19), with a black, vinyl cross-grain roof (code K) the paint and trim are in overall very good order. The cars body work is straight and solid, the engine bay is very tidy and the chrome bumpers look fantastic. As the pinnacle of personal luxury cars, the Eldorado pioneered that slim vertical section of side glass known as the opera window. Within a few years, all of the junior-level models had the same feature Monte Carlo, Grand Prix, Cutlass Supreme, Regal, Corboba, Mirada, Thunderbird and Cougar. Even the turn and brake signal indicators mounted on the front fenders work, WOW!This Cadillac rolls on period-correct Firestone FR721 whitewall radials, size P235/75R15. Each tire is mounted to a steel wheel topped by factory wheel covers. The tires are in very good condition while the wheel covers are in good, original order.Under that brawny hood is that big-block torque generator, the aforementioned 500 cube V-8. It has a Rochester four-barrel Quadrajet carburetor 4MV, breathes via dual exhausts that merge into a single tailpipe and is mated to a Turbo Hydramatic 400 three-speed automatic transmission backed with a 3.07:1 rear end. Theres a long list of driver convenience features, air-conditioning, cruise control, power steering, power brakes, power mirror, power locks, power windows and power front seat (code V). This example has the following extra options rear defroster (code A), original LOF Soft-Ray glass (code E), auto-leveling suspension (code L) and floor mats (code F) and tilt-telescope steering column. The air-conditioning has recently been serviced.Inside, the Antique Oxblood leather interior (code 489) is in overall very good order. The front seat with its folding center armrest and rear bench seats look great overall while the complementing carpet is in good, original condition. The three-spoke steering wheel wears a cover on its rim. The instrument panel is in good, original order, the inner door panels are in very good shape and the courtesy lights still work. Completing the interior is a factory AM/FM stereo.Coupe competitors to this Cadillac in 1972 included AMCs Ambassador Brougham, BMWs 3.0CS, Buicks Centurion Sport Coupe and Riviera, Cadillacs own Coupe de Ville, Chryslers Imperial LeBaron, Citrons SM, Dodges Monaco, Jaguars XKE Series III V-12, Jensens Interceptor, Lincolns Continental Mark IV, Mercedes-Benzs 450 SLC, Mercurys Grand Marquis Brougham, Oldsmobiles 98 and Toronado, Pontiacs Grand Ville and Rolls-Royces Corniche.Documentation includes original owners manual, original emissions control system manual and original sales brochures. In 1972, if you wanted the neighbors to know you had arrived, you bought a Cadillac; if you wanted your country club buddies to envy you, you bought a Cadillac Eldorado.
