As a 98-pound weakling who transformed into the Big Man on Campus, so is the story of this 1967 Ford Mustang Fastback. MotoeXotica Classic Cars is proud to present our 1967 Ford Mustang Fastback!

Dressed in Wimbledon White with Rangoon Red Racing Stripes, the paint and trim on this pony are in excellent condition. This car was painstakingly restored in 1994; the GT badges and racing stripes were added during the restoration, so this is not a factory Mustang GT. Its bodywork is straight and solid, its engine bay is exceedingly tidy, as is the restored and finished cargo area, the battery appears new and the chrome bumpers shine brilliantly. There is also an engine bay brace.

It was built at Ford’s Metuchen, New Jersey factory and left the line with the 200 CID Thriftpower inline six-cylinder engine, but was soon replaced with the 289cid V8 that’s is still in the engine bay. Under the hood is that aforementioned 289 CID V-8 engine with the following features – an Edelbrock High-Rise intake manifold, a 600 CFM carburetor, a Competition camshaft, Crane roller rockers, Miladoon stainless valves, Tri-Y headers and a Petronix ignition. Backing this engine is a Borg-Warner T-10 four-speed manual transmission with a heavy-duty clutch and a Hurst Competition Shifter.

Additional features include an aluminum driveshaft, two-inch dropped A-arms in front, 620 Magna coil springs, KYB gas shocks, urethane bushings, Magna Mid-Eye leaf springs and sub-frame connectors.

This car rolls on Firestone Firehawk SS tires, size 235/60R15 at all four corners. Each tire surrounds a vented, chrome wheel. The tires are in very good order while the wheels are in excellent condition.

Inside, the car has a gorgeous red interior. The red bucket seats look fantastic, as does the matching carpet. The headliner is also in great shape with its overhead console. There’s a three-spoke wooden steering wheel, the red instrument panel and matching inner door panels are all in similar great shape. The center console and shifter help cap off the interior, along with a JVC AM/FM stereo with a cassette deck.

The 1967 model year Mustang was the first redesign of the original model. Ford’s designers began drawing up a larger version even as the original was achieving sales success, and while “Iacocca later complained about the Mustang’s growth, he did oversee the redesign for 1967.” The major mechanical feature was to allow the installation of a big-block V-8 engine. The overall size, interior and cargo space were increased. Exterior trim changes included concave taillights, side scoop (1967 model) and chrome (1968 model) side ornamentation, square rear-view mirrors, and usual yearly wheel and gas cap changes.

The 1967 Deluxe Interior was revised, discontinuing the embossed running horse motif on the seat backs (the source for the “pony interior” nickname) in favor of a new deluxe interior package, which included special color options, brushed aluminum (from August 1966 production) or woodgrain dash trim, seat buttons, and special door panels. The hardtop also included upholstered quarter trim panels, a carryover from the 1965-66 deluxe interior. The 1967 hardtop also had the chrome quarter trim caps, carried over from 1965-66, but these were painted to match the interior in 1968 models. The 1967 deluxe interior included stainless steel-trimmed seat back shells, similar to those in the Thunderbird. These were dropped at the end of the 1967 model year and were not included in the woodgrain-trimmed 1968 interior. The deluxe steering wheel, which had been included in the deluxe interior for the 1965-66, became optional, and could also be ordered with the standard interior.

Ponycar competition to this Mustang in 1967 included Chevrolet’s new Camaro, Mercury’s new Cougar, Pontiac’s new Firebird and Plymouth’s Barracuda.
