A classic SUV with a modern twist, MotoeXotica Classic Cars is pleased to offer this first-year 1966 Ford Bronco 4×4. Made in Ford’s Wayne, Michigan factory in February 1966, this example has been restored and modified, to the awesome beast you see before you!
It’s Pearl Yellow and two-tone black exterior are in overall excellent condition though there are a couple of minor blemishes on the driver’s side door and rear fender but the paint looks especially brilliant in sunlight. The truck’s windows are clear and intact while its lights look fantastic.
This truck rolls on Toyo M/T Open Country light truck tires, size 35×13.50R15. Each one surrounds an American Racing black five-spoke wheel. The wheels and tires are in very good overall condition.
The truck’s bodywork is solid and straight and includes driver and passenger step-up bars and sideview mirrors. The engine bay is very tidy, the battery appears new, the fully-carpeted cargo bay looks good and the bumpers fit well to the body. The floor is also sprayed with a bed liner.
Under the hood is understood to be a 302 CID Ford Motorsports V-8 engine with a Holley four-barrel carburetor, Edelbrock intake manifold, aluminum radiator, MSD ignition breathing through dual exhausts. Buttoned to this motor is a three-speed manual transmission with a Dana 44 front axle and a Ford nine-inch rear axle. There is also a lift kit with heavy duty shock absorbers and coil springs. Driver convenience features include power steering, power brakes and Ford front locking hubs.
Inside, the black front, high-back bucket seats and folding rear bench are in overall very good shape, as is the matching carpet. The contrasting, light-colored headliner is in satisfactory shape. Facing the driver is a wood-rimmed, three-spoke Cobra steering wheels. The black and yellow inner door panels echo the rest of the vehicle’s paint scheme while the instrument panel features a full array of Auto Meter gauges. Both the doors and modified dashboard are in great condition. Extra features include driver and front passenger assist handles and a roll bar. The truck’s center console, complete with dual cupholders, is in very good order, while the Hurst shifter, complete with white ball, looks good. This vehicle has no audio.
The original Bronco was an off-road vehicle (ORV) intended to compete primarily with Jeep CJ models and the International Harvester Scout. The Bronco’s small size, riding on a 92-inch (2,337 mm) wheelbase, made it very maneuverable. The 1966 Bronco was not only Ford’s first compact SUV — its marketing also shows a very early example of promoting a civilian off-roader as a “Sports Utility” (the two-door pickup version). The early Broncos were offered in wagon, pickup and a roadster configuration.
The truck came with a long option list that included front bucket seats, a rear bench seat, a tachometer and a CB radio, as well as functional items such as a tow bar, an auxiliary gas tank, a power take-off, a snowplow, a winch, and a posthole-digger. Aftermarket accessories included campers, overdrive units, and the usual array of wheels, tires, chassis and engine parts for increased performance.
Competition to this Ford in 1966 included the International-Harvester’s Scout 800 and Jeep’s CJ-5.
This truck is currently located at our facility in St. Louis, Missouri. Current mileage on the odometer indicates 46,865 miles. It is sold as is, where is, on a clean and clear, mileage exempt title. GET OUT AND DRIVE!!!
