The 1965 Chevrolet Chevy II and Nova were updated with cleaner front-end styling courtesy of a fresh full-width grille with new integrated headlight bezels. Parking lights moved down to the deep-section bumper, and sedans gained a new roofline. Taillight and backup lights were restyled, as was the rear cove. The 1965 Chevy II came in entry-level 100 form or as the posher Nova 400, each in three body styles. The Nova Super Sport came as a Sport Coupe only, and its production dipped to just 9,100 cars. Super Sports had a new brushed-chrome console with floor-mounted four-speed manual transmission or Powerglide automatic, but a column-mounted three-speed manual remained standard. Bucket seats wore textured vinyl trim, and the dashboard held ammeter, oil pressure, and temperature gauges. An expanded engine lineup gave customers six power choices of the six-cylinder or V-8 engines; the four-cylinder was available only in the 100. But, for Chevy II enthusiasts, 1965 is best remembered as the year the Chevy II became a muscle car. A 327 cu in V8 was available with up to 300 hp, suddenly putting Nova SS performance practically on a par with the GTO, 4-4-2, and 271hp Mustang 289s-at least in straight-line acceleration. Midyear also brought a more potent 283 with dual exhausts and 220 horsepower. The car you see here makes all of those motor options look miniscule to what is powering this 10 second beast. This 1965 Chevrolet Nova was put in a private collection in 1983 where it was for 22 years. In 2005 it was purchased to make into what you see today. We have a receipt for the motor alone showing that it was built at a cost of $16,329 by Rebello Racing out of Antioch California. We have a dyno print out showing that the car is putting down 512 horsepower to the wheels and 476 ft lbs of torque. We have a folder full of receipts that show the build and parts of the car. After going through them, no short cuts were taken and nothing cheap was put on the car. After adding up all of the receipts, I came to a total of $55,000 in parts and labor. The body is in good overall condition but isn’t show quality. The paint is older and shows some minor imperfections. Nothing major with the exception of some minor chips and dings. Both front and rear bumpers are in good condition with no major pitting or imperfections. All of the glass is in good condition with no cracks or chips. Inside, the interior is pretty basic and has had the majority of it stripped out for weight savings. The drivers side seat is a racing bucket with a 4 point harness. The passenger seat appears to be the original style but does have a 4 point racing harness. All of the gauges are from Auto Meter and include speedometer, tach, fuel, oil pressure, volts and temperature. There are dual shift lights mounted on the dash. The car does have an 8 point roll cage installed going from the engine compartment to the trunk. The engine powering this Nova is a beast. Fast revving and smooth running. The 327 has been stroked to 358 Cu In and is running around 13.0:1 compression. The carb feeding it is a custom jetted 4bbl Holley from Rebello racing that appears to be running around 650cfm with 78/80/6.5 jets. Some of the internals consist of J&E forged pistons, forged crank, billet rods, Comp roller rockers and Canton oil pan. The engine has just over 530 miles on the build. The 4 speed manual transmission shifts with no problems and the clutch is strong. The front end is a custom subframe assembly that includes disc brakes, rack and pinion steering, adjustable strut, control arms and sway bar. There has also been a tow hook installed on the lower frame rail under the engine. The underside is solid and has been given extra support with sub frame connectors. The rear suspension has been improved with adjustable ladder bars. The mini tubbed rear end is a narrowed Detroit locker with 3.85 gears. The wheels are wrapped with newer rubber that has good tread life left on them. In the trunk, you will find a fuel cell as well as a battery box. This is an incredible car that we’re asking less then what was invested in receipts alone. If someone gave you a free, solid nova, you would begin to be able to build the car for what you will buy this for. VIN number is 113115N203109 and the car is being sold on a clean California title.
