The Nissan S30 (sold in Japan as the Nissan Fairlady Z and in other markets as the Datsun 240Z, then later as the 260Z and 280Z) was the first generation of Z GT two-seat coupe, and later (beginning in the 1974 model year) also 2+2 hatchbacks produced by Nissan Motors, Ltd. of Japan from 1969 to 1978. It was designed by a team led by Mr. Yoshihiko Matsuo, the head of Nissan’s Sports Car Styling Studio. HLS30 was the designation of the left-hand drive model and HS30 for the right-hand drive model. The Fairlady Z was introduced in late 1969 as a 1970 model, with the L20 2.0-litre straight-6 SOHC engine, rear-wheel drive, and a stylish coupe body. The engine, based on the Datsun 510′s 4-cylinder, produced 150 hp (112 kW) and came with a 5-speed manual transmission. The Japan-only HS30-H Nissan Fairlady ZG was released in Japan in October 1971 to homologate the 240Z for Group 4 racing. Differences between the Fairlady ZG and an export market Datsun 240Z include an extended fiberglass ‘aero-dyna’ nose, wider over-fenders riveted to the body, a rear spoiler, acrylic glass headlight covers and fender-mounted rear-view mirrors. Although the ZG was not sold in the USA and was never sold outside Japan, in order for it to be eligible for competition in the U.S., Nissan sold the nose kit as a dealer’s option which is known as the “G-nose”. With the nose added, these 240Zs are often referred to as 240ZGs, outside of Japan. The car you see here is a 1975 Nissan Fairlady Z that was imported from Japan in 1979 via military transport and has been in California ever since. Since here in the United States, the car has only been with two owners who both used it as a daily driver. This car is a right hand drive and does have the factory installed G nose as well as rear fairing and spoiler. These are very rare options that are never seen here in the United States. To make this car even more special, it was signed under the hood by Mr. Yutaka Katayama. Mr. Yutaka Katayama is the man recognized as “the Father Of The Z Car”. He was inducted into the “Automobile Hall Of Fame” in 1998, in large part due to his championing of the Z Car for his American Customers, and his shepherding of the product from concept to delivery. The paint on the car is older and is showing some wear from the California sun. There are some spots of cracking and wear that are visible. The exterior of the car is good overall and solid, but does have its imperfections. Inside, the vinyl seats are both in very good overall condition with no major rips or tears to be found, just some split seams as you can see in the photos. The carpet looks good and does look like it’s been replaced in the last few years. As you can see in the pictures, the dash does have some cracks and the steering wheel does show some wear. Under the hood, the car retains its original L20, 2.0 liter six cylinder mated with the 5 speed manual transmission. There have been dual Weber carbs installed. The car runs and drives but we believe it does have a blown head gasket. This is a very rare car and has an incredible following. While not perfect, the car is very rare and desirable and is priced accordingly. VIN number is S30123554 and the mileage shows 48,744 kilometers. From the information we have, this is believed to be 448,744 kilometers. With the car comes a photo of the previous owner with Mr. Katayama when he signed the underside of the hood as well as all of the import papers from 1979.
