1919 Excelsior Motorcycle
If you are looking for a wonderful classic motorcycle to add to your collection, look no FURTHER! MotoeXotica is offering a very rarely seen 1919 Excelsior “X’’ that has a very good paint job thanks to a recent restoration! 1918 and 1919 were relatively quite product development times for Excelsior-Henderson so please feel free to give me any information that you may know about these bikes, I will add any and all information to the auction once I receive it.

During the first decade of the 20th century, motorcycles were built by bicycle and automobile manufacturers who were as new to motorcycles as motorcycles were new to population. By the time Excelsior built its first motorcycle in 1905, the company already had 30 years of experience engineering bicycle frames and parts. This gave them a leg up on the other motorcycle manufacturers who had difficulty keeping their bikes together on the torturous roads of the day. Excelsior's first motorcycle was a single-speed machine, featuring a single-cylinder, 21 CU IN "F-head", in which the intake valve was on top of the cylinder and the exhaust valve was inverted inside the cylinder. The frame was a keystone type, with the crankcase an integral frame component. Dual top frame tubes sandwiched the fuel tank, a feature quickly copied by other manufacturers. With a flat, leather belt transferring power to the rear wheel, and a leading link front suspension to swallow the bumps, riders could speed along at 35 to 40 MPH.

The metal of this 1919 ‘x’ is all in very good condition and has been re-sprayed the original olive drab with dark green stripes and the large, gold and silver X on the tank. The paint shows very nicely and is near show quality. The only fault we have found is some pitting or bubbles on the painted handle bars and a few minor chips from storage and transport. There are no major nicks or scratches to be found throughout the bike. Both the front and rear 28x3 tires are period correct and are in great condition showing no rot. The painted spoke wheels are in very good condition as well. This bike is ready to be adding to what I’m sure is your already impressive collection!

The VIN# is 100816. The bike was previously owned by an older couple that collected vintage bikes and has been in storage for the past numerous years! We purchased this fine machine as you see it and have not started the bike to date as it has been in dry storage for some time. I have a mechanic that will be going through the bike. It currently has good kick through compression. It is being sold on a bill of sale only.
